Introduction [01 Jul 2006|09:05pm]

Hey, I'm new here. My name's Amanda. I've been a Jeff Buckley fan since the end of last year. I was originally a fan of Tim's. I know all about the folklore surrounding him and his father's death and parallels in life, but I still want to know much more. My hope in joining this community is to find others who understand my current fixation with Jeff, to learn more from some of you more advanced Jeff afficiandos, to find pics and sites I've never seen, and to learn more about him and his music, and to make some friends. This site looks like a great place to do it.

I know that no one on here actually knows me, but believe me: I am just as sad and obsessed as you are. In various ways. That's also why I just joined your lovely community.
What I actually wanted to ask you is if anyone has Jeff's live cover of Henry Purcell's Dido's Lament (also known as Death), which I've been dying to hear for ages, and could share it with me. It would be very kind of you. Thanks.

It's So Fucking Beautiful. [18 Apr 2005|04:09pm]

I'm sitting at the table with this man. It's an empty apartment, brick walls out every window except one in the middle of the kitchen room. Coffee rides the air. Steam from his cup sprials over the lip and disappears onto the tabletop. I gaze with envy at his fingers. I know I've seen his hands before. I've heard these hands before. He looks like Einstein, except American, dark, sophisticated and a smaller nose, but the same hair. He wears a V-necked t-shirt and threadbare green military pants adhered together with small brass safety pins. He beings to speak:
'Nusrat is my Elvis. I'm surprised you've heard of him.' He sips from his cup as if the might of his touch would shatter the glass. He stares contently back at me.
'Only because of you singing him. That was the first time I had an introduction to so many artists, was when you sang their songs. Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Van Morrison. You told me who to listen to by just singing. Just listening to you talk is a great show. Your voice shakes my hands into nervousness.' The man looks down at his drink, leg crossed; folded atop one another. A breif pause fills empty spots in the room.
'Wow,' he smiles as he interprets what he's just heard come out my mouth,'it's hard to beleive this has happened to me.'
'Everyone who knows who you are loves you. I know you didn't want to be a martyr. It just happened. There were so many lost souls, but they were all rasing your flag. Praising your love and art. Your messages of love are abundant, but hardly recongnized. They love you unconditionally.'
'I wish I could tell them I love them back. I mean, there's not much you can do when you're dead. Can you tell them?' His eyes were laced with sincerity as the rose to meet mine.
'I'm nothing but a boy though. I can't tell everyone your love, they'd think I'm crazy.' I could feel the sweat sliding down my ribs from my underarm.
'I was nothing but a boy.'
I just had a conversation with Jeff Buckley's ghost in my sleep. I kissed the back of his hand and left the apartment.

I thought some of you might like that.

something to live by [28 Feb 2005|01:16pm]
[ mood | good ]

"Be seriously involved with growing, with your own development, and never fear. Be the kind of person who is naturally powerful, positive, ingenious, open, to the highest degree, but with no interest in coersion or pressure or power over other people. That kind of power is hollow. It contains nothing and brings you nothing in the long run. Be The Best. No Negativity, No Weakness, No Acquiescence To Fear Or Disaster, No Errors Of Ignorance, No Evasion From Reality." - Jeff Buckley

I don't know what people have posted about Jeff's quotes in the past.. but all I have to say is, these are absolutely words to live by, at least for me. Jeff was so amazing and insightful...so much of what he said is near biblical! I love him so much, it's such a shame because so much more would have come from him. So beautiful

Hey all...
I'm blown away by the version of You and I on http://www.mojopin.org
It's beautiful...really, really..just something special...somebody was talking about it a lot on the jeff_buckley community, and I finally got round to listening to it, and I'm so glad I did.
It's just...something really extraordinary..

I don't care what you're doing right now, but if you're reading this, then go listen to it...even if you've heard it before..any excuse..just...

Is there anyone who plays guitar and sings who covers any of Jeff's work? I have worked up covers and people tell me they're pretty close, but it feels like taboo to cover songs that are so brilliant. I wish that Jeff were still here. He's made a position in my life where he's like my dead brother.

Heya, people never seem to update this thing. Please explain WHY! :)
Jeff Buckley truly is one of the greatest artists who ever lived. Listening to his live performances is a breathtaking experience, sadly I'm not old enough to have ever had the chance to see him live, but I own quite a lot of the CDs.

Grace (well, DUH, everybody who likes Jeff has this one :) )
SKETCHES FOR My Sweetheart the Drunk (I love this double CD album, it's one of my favourite CDs that I own, the songs he was working on...ohhh, they're just so beautiful! :( )
Live From The Bataclan (Love the version of The Way Young Lovers Do on this :) )
Live a l'Olympia ( Beautiful CD too, the version of All That I Ask is just gloriously wonderous!)
Live At Sin-e LEGACY EDITION (The version of Sweet Thing is unforgettable, we're so lucky that that was caught on audio!!!)
Grace LEGACY EDITION (I like I Want Somebody Badly, it's a really nice direction that Jeff didn't go that much into in most of the recorded material :D)
Live At Chicago DVD ( I love the version of Mojo Pin)

Heh, I seem to be talking a lot...Sorry...
Honestly, people...you should update a bit more often. This is my first time here so I feel entitled to my ramble...well..kinda...meh, never mind :)

Struggling artist needs you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [08 Sep 2004|11:21pm]

Know this is off topic but it'll be doing my friend a big favour

A good friend of mine tony has some of his fanatstic art work at http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/list.pl?gallery=9373. The site has a stool at the american dragoncon this year and the most popular linked artists willl have their art exhibited, this could lead to big things for said artists. tonyhippy currently resideds at 177 and needs to get his viewer rating mucho up in order to have his work shown, and I can't think of anyone who would deserve a break like this more, not only is his work brilliant, but he's one of the nicest peeps you could hope to meet, so go on visit the link please

Hey everyone. New to the community and very happy I found it. My name's Frances, and I'm 17. I live in Mexico, which is a tough place to be a Buckley fan, but I get through. My favorite songs are Dream Brother and Last Goodbye.

I've enjoyed his music since I was 13 thanks to a friend. I think that's a pretty young age, but any younger and it would've been insane and kinda disrespectul since I wouldn't have grasped any meaning. So, I'm hoping to learn more about Jeff from fellow fans, especially those who've been into his music a while back.

Take care everyone.
